*See our iPad 3 update here!*

So we've had our revision 2 Yoobao iPad 2 cover for a while now, and we loved it then and still love it now. So much so that when we heard about a revision 3 being available, we simply had to get on the case (so to speak). We've had the revision 3 in house for some time now, and having put it through its grueling paces on the nightstand, in the car, and wedged under our slumbering bodies when we doze off (hey, it happens), we have another verdict for you.

So, click the little blue words to the lower right, and let's get casing!
But let's also get a mini rant out of the way first: It should not take a manufacturer three revisions to get an iPad 2 case "right." It really, really shouldn't. As much as we love the Yoobao cover, this isn't acceptable.

/end rant

So, the revision 3 Yoobao case, then. At first glance not much appears to have changed, but with this leather cover, some of its beauty really is skin deep. The new update is basically a fine-tuning of what was already very, very good.

First, the front cover has been elongated horizontally ever so slightly so that it closes more flush. You can see this in the comparison shot below, with the revision 3 on the left, and the revision 2 on the right.

This is an important change because it's one part toward addressing one of our few issues with the revision 2: the cover wasn't secured when closed. This meant the front flap would flop open if the case was held at any angle. In addition to this, the magnets have changed shape and position in the front flap. Now there are small square-shaped magnets just in the corners of the flap, and they hold the cover closed! Yay! We're not guaranteeing you can hold the Yoobao + iPad 2 upside down and not have the cover flop open, but it does mean holding it like a folder or moving it from place to place will be no problem. This cover stays closed!

The only other change to note is the flap that wraps behind your iPad 2 is now slightly bigger (wider). Some people had issues with the iPad 2 sliding slightly in landscape mode (we didn't, but that doesn't make your complaints any less valid!), so Yoobao has chosen to address this with a slightly wider flap. You can see this below (revision 3 on top).

Verdict:

it's pretty simple, really. Take a really great case and tweak it to be even better. While it's a shame it's taken three revisions (so far!), the Yoobao Executive Leather case is still the absolute best case on the market, and with these changes it's just even better. Our score remains the same, but this is still the iPad 2 case to own.

Thanks again to Kay at AYL for the samples!

I just bought one of these cases off of ebay and wasn't too sure which version I had. You don't know how hard I looked for a side by side comparison of these 2 cases. THANK YOU SO MUCH ----<---<@

Just another thought. You might also include the differences in the boxes that the items come in and the differences in some of the holes (bigger in 3). It would also be nice to see the differences in 1, 2, and 3 in case people end up with version 1 when they thought they were buying version 3!!??

Just a thought...

Thanks for the comments, Lyn. :-)

I didn't notice any real differences in the hole cutouts between revision 1, 2, or 3. Certainly nothing of note.

Revision 1 looks the same as Revision 2, except Revision 2 doesn't smell terrible due to the leather difference. Revision 1 and 2 will look identical in pictures, so those who aren't sure need just reference the pictures in this review.

Thanks again!

ThaNks for your great reviews. Just got my black Yoobao from amazon. Slight leather smell, but nothing offensive. Question though- the cover just has one magnet on the top corner, not on the bottom corner. Is this correct?

There should be two magnets, one in the top of the flap and one in the bottom. You should be able to tell pretty easily, either by the faint square outline of the magnet shape, or from the fact that it actually holds the cover in place. I'd be surprised if a magnet was missed in production, but I suppose anything is possible!

I just purchased this case (version 3), but it does not seem to have a magnet at the bottom, just at the top and the one for sleep/awake. Is this normal?

I'm not sure what you mean by the "one for sleep/awake." They are one and the same thing. How many magnets does your case have, and where are they located? It's possible the design may have slightly changed in the cases, but as long as the case is held relatively shut, and the screen turns on and off when you open/close your cover, you're fine! :-)

Recently I bought an ipad and I was looking for a suitable case for it, as I did not have one along with the gadgets. The sharing on your site is exactly the thing I was searching for and I will visit your site for more related products updates. Keep posting more.
